Welcome to Yamamoto Sushibar

Schmiedgasse 22, 8010 Graz, Austria

General Info

Tucked away on Schmiedgasse 22 in the heart of 8010 Graz, Yamamoto Sushibar is one of those places that instantly feels like a local favorite. It’s a sushi restaurant that blends clean flavors, relaxed energy, and a menu that keeps regulars coming back. From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere feels trendy yet welcoming, making it just as suitable for a casual evening as it is for a planned dinner date.

The menu focuses on Japanese classics with a clear emphasis on freshness and balance. One of the standout choices is the Sushi & Sashimi Moriawase, which arrives beautifully arranged and highlights the quality of the fish without unnecessary extras. Each piece tastes deliberate, clean, and well-prepared. For something more filling, the Salmon Teriyaki Bento delivers comfort and variety on one plate, combining rich flavors with a satisfying presentation.

Smaller dishes play an important role here too. Edamame is served simply and works perfectly as a light start while browsing the rest of the menu. Sushi lovers often gravitate toward the Rainbow Roll, a colorful option that feels both playful and refined. Another favorite is the Hausgemachte Gedämpfte Teigtäschchen, offering a warm, homemade touch that contrasts nicely with the cool precision of sushi and sashimi.

Yamamoto Sushibar is also thoughtful about different dining preferences. Vegan options are available, making it easier for mixed groups to enjoy the experience together. The bar on site adds to the relaxed vibe, especially if you enjoy pairing your meal with a drink. Practical details haven’t been overlooked either-there’s a clean toilet on location, and the overall layout feels comfortable without being crowded.

Because of its popularity, dinner reservations are recommended, especially during busy evenings. Reviews often highlight the consistent quality and laid-back charm, which explains why this spot holds a steady reputation among Graz restaurants. Whether you’re exploring new locations in the city or revisiting a trusted menu, the experience here feels genuine, unforced, and easy to enjoy from the first bite onward.

What customers say?

“ I was here with a friend of mine and the food was amazing. Though, we had to wait a while till we got our food but it wasn't that bad. The workers there were also very nice and patient. But there was something in my tea that looked quiet disgusting. But in general, this place is a 9/10 ”

“ I ordered something from their hidden yet authentic Chinese food menu. Especially the Sichuan spicy food is very delicious. Of course you can request any spicy level. The service is also very good. Will definitely visit again ”

“ A cute little place for a cozy evening. I have been there two times and liked it very much every time. Sushi is very fresh. The cucumber chilli oil salad is my favourite. Everything in the menu is great. Service is also very good. It is a nice place for a party of 2-4 ideally. ”

“ Tried the temaki handroll and the other dish was a special, a sushi rice bowl with roasted fish (mostly salmon, and a little piece of tuna) on top! Both were delicious, I especially liked the texture of the rice! ”

- Christina Schirl -

“ This is a dependance of their restaurant at Prokopigasse 4, which serves really good sushi. So it comes as no surprise that the sushi was also very good. The location is great, because you can sit outside and have a nice view of the ongoings in the Schmidgasse, which is usually busy during weekends. Only four stars because we also had ramen and it wasn’t too good. Would recommend to order sushi. ”

- Christian Schneider -

“ It also offers Chinese food! It’s said to be the most authentic Sichuan food you can get in Graz. So we ordered take away Sichuan cuisine! Fairly spicy, numbing and oily! I like Dandan noodles the most as it is not spicy lol ”
